Hi ana, nice to see you on board, even if the topic is sad, if true.
Sorry, I have no further info about all that and I dont like to spread rumours, so I cant say anything about. Only one, if bxx would close the free comunity server, they may be silly:
It delivers them a lot of finest worlds and people that stay in their enviroment.
It's my belive that blaxxun is still only well known this times, cause a lot of free builders use their software.
The hope to convert that to a payed service may only destroy things and can cause damage to vrml too.
But dont be too afraid, there will be always a need for such a free chat and building enviroment, so if one closes, this dont kills the idea of 'snowcrash'.
There are some other (free!) projects that may get some new/more power then:
http://www.deepmatrix.org/
http://www.emma3d.org/
http://interreality.org
http://www.vrspace.org/
http://www.cyworx.com/viewtopic.php?t=43
http://www.cyworx.com/viewtopic.php?t=10
and there is still also Thyme who is a very good C++ coder, made tests with his P2P chat-client.
Ah Alain, dont steal the nice girls from cyworx-board! Better bring some from louise to this techie board, so we can become not so only techie in future )

Thanks for mentioning me hermie hey and alain's here too from the Louise forum, what a small world we live in
I wanted to correct something you said hermie, I wrote a client and server later from scratch (well at least starting with winsock functions which I understand is based on the same thing linux uses) after you told me P2P was inefficient do you remember? lol. I just recently dusted off this old code that's now years old since the last time we had the blaxxun server scare and got it working again. Both my server and client is not many lines of code but a nice place to start from because I will be able to understand it and besides its the only way I know how to develop anything
I spent a good part of this year developing a script compiler that's compiles a subset of C++ instructions. This is something I have wanted to do for years now. I got it to the stage where it can compile the code for a hoppy which I showed to alain and anastasia about a month ago so they can verify I actually did it . My C++ compiler compiles source C++ code (that looks very simular to vrmlscript due to the way I have designed the library) to native machine code. The same thing should work on Linux fine because it uses Intel instructions and the same thing could be done for a Mac or any CPU if you rewrite the compiler to generate what ever instructions the CPU uses. This means my script can be just as platform independent as any other web language and C++ is also not a trade mark of any company which is a big plus too. My C++ script should also be just as secure as any other web language when used for online scripts by having it so only smart pointers can be compiled. The smart pointers will work much the same as a raw pointer but wont let the user point it to anything other than NULL or an object of the type it is made for. I hope to make a beeline soon in the direction of making a simple 3d chat server/client with the client utilising my C++ scripts. Using C++ scripts I hope will unleash a lot of power to the user for very little overhead. I will make the code for my 3d client and server open source.
regards

The Blaxxun demo-server is working best than ever these days... healthy thing ...
For the up 'n downs to come, I'll stay waching Thyme's work... but, why aren't Fab's nor Rick's alternatives listed ?
Here they go :
http://www.vrmlworlds.com/software/vp3d_chat/
http://vrmlworld.net/
I don't list n3dme, because it is still quirky enough not to be listed, but I'm working on it
If it all was about 'non vrml' alternatives, sorry for the off-topic.
Deepmatrix appears to be linking to some vrml content, but the page seems to be out of order, or is it a wrong url, or just temporary probs (like Blaxx ) ?
Huggs,
Peter
P.S.: Hey Jicer ! Salud y Revolución ! |
