Hi,
I recently visited alberto's world via vrmlworlds.net and also
http://www.normann-stadler.info/ . In it are realistic, reflective
water effects. Its equivalent to Windlite used at second life.

Does anyone know how to achieve that effect?
Its..amazing!

Hi McFly :

I had a look at it and ... Sad ... didnt see the water reflections effect.

May be i'm missing some sort of codec/player or my gpu does not support it.

Probably it uses some BS-Contact specific node. Have a look at the dev-manuals.

The rest of the place looks cool, yes.

Regards,

Peter

Yes, its BS-Contact specific.
Also some graphic cards may not have all the shaders. Confused

I recently upgraded my puter Smile So I bought BioShock which is a totally excellent game and uses all the latest rendering technogloy. There are two which are remarkable: Real time specular lighting and reall time reflections. the specular lighting looks amazing and makes all the brass an copper very realistic. This seems to take major computer power. Then there is realistic water reflections, which looks just like windlight and the ones in the example used above. In bs contact, I took a look at it in wireframe and the reflecction seems to be in an animated plane(?) model. Basically, it looks like real water and reflects and defracts the sky and the land and architecture. It's really amazing effect and perhpas the reason the download is so big?

yeah to play Bioshock in all its glory you need the full specs: dual core, 2 gigs and nvidia card. Its very much like a movie... now I have been thinking of how to make a game even more cinematic. Currently, games feel like we only attend the action section of the game. Playing shooters, when one comes to a cut scene, its hard to come down and focus because
you are still so hyped up from all the action. How does a game have slow dramatic parts mixed in with the action? Basically, how does one make a game have the same dramatic impact as the best movies?

Bioshock game is a total evolotion however, in that they have perfected a lot of small things.....so what he have now is an almost perfected version of Wolfenstein. The perfected version would have totally real 3d graphics.
But all the graphics still dont answer the question of dramatic impact.

I've only seen the Bs examples of Chrome and multi materials and though they are excellent examples, itwould be great to see a full VRML world utilizing these techniques.

But that water effect.... its very real!

I would like to see a 3d product sold right along side games, that uses all the latest game technologies....but instead is a 20 hour art journey. Something with a narrative to keep the user involved--ie a beginning and end. The possibitlities are great as far as content. at forty, I am beginning to get tired of shooting everything and like music, want something with more depth.

Realism is not the only path to achieve creativity Smile.

Stay tuned and watch out for "Islanda 6000 U", the new 3d world of Taranis, a weird island lost in the sea... Wink
